THIS WEEK'S LIFE GROUP QUESTIONS
Sunday January 22, 2023
Season of Focus 4: "In The Meantime"
1. “Your career is what you are paid for. Your calling is what you are made for.” Share your thoughts about this quote and whether or not your “careers” and callings are opposing one another, or complimentary of one another.
2. Read 1 Samuel 13:1-14 by distributing the text among one another. Discuss where Saul went wrong in this story. What would you have done if you were in Saul’s shoes? Describe a time in your life when you may have taken a short cut around what you knew God was asking you to do.
3. In Sunday’s message, we were posed with this question: Who am I aligned with? The way that we grow in our faith and walking in our calling will largely have to do with who is in our circle of influence. List a few people within your circle of influence that could help you walk out your calling (or whom already have).
4. Your calling requires wisdom, not fear. Fear caused Saul to take on someone else’s responsibility that he was never called to. In what ways does fear motivate us to “behave foolishly” as Saul did in vs. 13? What are the consequences of taking on someone else’s mantle/calling that you were never called to? (provide examples if you can)
5. Your calling requires patience, not pride. Review vs. 8-9 in chapter 13 of 1 Samuel. Where did Saul go wrong in terms of patience? What are you waiting on that may cause a temptation to hurry things along when it comes to your calling?
6. There is a place between promise and fulfillment called “in the meantime.” What does “in the meantime” look for you?
7. George Bernard Shaw was quoted as saying, “Two things define you: your patience when you have nothing, and your attitude when you have everything.” How would you advise someone spiritually who is currently living in each of these scenarios? Over the course of your life, how did you react in these situations?
8.Your calling requires you to know your strength and limitations. Review vs. 14. What had to happen in this story before Saul’s assignment could be fulfilled? (Who had to arrive?) What can happen when we step outside of our calling and follow someone else’s assignment?
9. In closing, take a moment to pray over one another as it relates to your individual calling.
